Multifunctional acoustic room division
The world of work is changing. Individual offices become multifunctional spaces that offer plenty of room for communication. However, the constant babble of voices, conversations between colleagues or loud calls can reduce concentration. In the long term, poor acoustics in the office can severely impair employees’ performance and even damage their health.
Today, an office has to be more than just a place to work. It has to be multifunctional, suitable for multimedia use and offer a high quality of stay. Good, flexible room acoustics play an important role in the new working environments and are much more than just a nice-to-have.
With the apn® Area Flex partitioning product family, we have found an answer to these challenges. Whether free-standing, suspended or as a furniture or table attachment – the versatile application options allow certain areas to be separated from one another and larger areas to be visually and acoustically structured. Meeting and quiet-intensive work zones can be partitioned off and reopened as required with the movable apn® Area Flex Luv or apn® Gig XL elements.

Wall absorbers – outstanding acoustic designs
In our last article, we explained the advantages of ceiling absorbers. But what happens if these alone do not contribute to improving the room acoustics or if it is not possible to install them on the ceiling? In such cases, wall absorbers are the ideal solution!
In acoustically unbalanced rooms, sound waves oscillate back and forth between the walls. Sound-absorbing materials are needed to reduce these horizontal sound reflections. Our wall absorbers are specially designed to minimize these sound reflections and thus contribute to relaxed and comfortable room acoustics.
Almost incidentally, our acoustic absorbers from the apn® Forma, apn® Regatta and apn® Formanker series promote a noticeable improvement in the room climate. They help to improve the air quality and thus ensure a pleasant environment.
An additional advantage of our wall absorbers is their function as a pinboard. Notes, photos or important documents can be attached in such a way that they are visible. They are not only effective at absorbing sound, but also become a practical and functional accessory in any room.
Even in our standard portfolio, our absorbers are available in a variety of colors, patterns and textures that allow them to be seamlessly integrated into any room design. We also specialize in transforming your design ideas into iconic acoustic landmarks. You will find out more about this soon. Invest in better room acoustics, it’s worth it! Room acoustics solutions for the ceiling: an art in itself
Improving room acoustics is an art that requires both technical understanding and aesthetic flair. At apn® we usually start this process at the ceiling – the place that is often overlooked but offers the greatest potential for acoustic improvement.
Our acoustic ceiling solutions from the apn Lamella® and apn® Vinta series are designed to fit seamlessly into any interior design. Whether mounted vertically or horizontally, discreetly or as a striking eye-catcher – we offer a variety of options to meet your specific needs.
Thanks to individual sizes, tailor-made shapes and a wide range of colors and fabrics, our solutions offer an almost infinite variety of formats. From individual items to customized lines, we have the right product for every need.
The apn® product range includes versatile solutions for various industries and applications. Whether in offices, hotels and restaurants, the medical sector, industry or education – our products are as versatile as the rooms in which they are used.
It is our art that all our products follow the claim of bringing aesthetics and functionality into perfect harmony. We believe that good room acoustics not only improve the listening experience, but also contribute to the overall feel-good atmosphere.

Room acoustics – an invisible force
Although room acoustics may be physically invisible, their impact is clearly perceptible and has a considerable influence on our physical and mental well-being. Due to their complexity, room acoustics require a great deal of explanation and experience.
As a fascinating aspect of sound theory, room acoustics deals with the effects of the structural conditions of a room on the sound events that take place there. At apn® we go one step further and link this concept with the personal interaction of people with space.
Poorly designed room acoustics can significantly impair the concentration and communication skills of the people in the room and increase the stress factor. Every room is different and every space used and every company has its own acoustic requirements profile. Our aim is to match each room acoustically to its intended use.
We therefore focus on speech intelligibility and limiting the reverberation time as key parameters. The aim is to find the right balance between room attenuation (absorption) and diffusivity (dispersion) of the sound.
In large, open office spaces, for example, a higher basic attenuation is required. But diffusivity and shielding are even more important. The direct sound is captured and attenuated by acoustic room partitioning elements. At the same time, overdamping must be avoided at all costs, as otherwise other noises such as keyboard clatter will be transmitted too clearly.
The earlier we are involved in the planning or development process, the easier it is to create an acoustically balanced atmosphere. As the concepts of usage profiles, interiors and acoustics are seamlessly interlinked during a space revitalization, we can identify acoustic obstacles at an early stage and avoid complex and costly optimization measures later on.
At apn®, we pride ourselves on providing customized room acoustics solutions that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Contact us today to find out more about this invisibly powerful measure!
Quiet please!
Today we celebrate the 27th Day Against Noise, an important reminder of the importance of silence in our increasingly noisy world. At a time when distractions lurk on every street corner, it is crucial to create oases of calm.
To enable concentrated knowledge work in all its facets, calming working and learning environments are essential. Whether in the context of New Work or New Education, excellent acoustics are the key to full concentration and mental immersion.
With well thought-out design, we can create places that not only motivate but also inspire. A well-designed working and learning area includes pleasant room acoustics. This not only promotes concentration, but also helps to increase productivity and creativity.
Through targeted measures such as the use of sound-absorbing materials, strategically placed furniture and plants, as well as the avoidance of disturbing noises, we can create spaces that radiate calm and inspiration. This creates the ideal environment for effective working and learning, in line with this year’s motto “Peace wins, the future begins”.
So let’s work together to design our environments in such a way that they support us in realizing our full potential. Because strength lies in tranquillity, and the future begins in silence.

The sound of New Work
New Work. Our designer for room acoustics elements likes to immerse herself in the world of open-plan spaces. For them, “New Work” is not just a short-lived trend. For them, it is an inevitable change in the world of work, which brings with it many different facets. In addition to change management and digitalization, the focus is shifting to space – the place where everything happens. This creates spaces for communication and collaboration that go far beyond mere corporate philosophy and identity. These rooms should inspire and become places of well-being. In recent years, the topic of room acoustics has gained more attention. But according to the latest OFFICE ROXX reader survey “Room acoustics 2023” commissioned by the “Quiet please!” acoustics campaign, one in three office workers still suffers greatly from acoustic disturbances.
Complex sound environments:
New Work spaces are becoming increasingly common in offices. Today’s working environments are following the trend towards openly designed rooms in the form of open spaces. These are very complex sound environments, as two theoretically contradictory activities have to be balanced in relation to the acoustics – oral communication and concentrated individual work. In such spaces, the disruption caused by speech can lead to tension between people who want to concentrate and people who need to speak in order to carry out their work.
The effects of noise on the human body and cognitive performance have already been extensively documented. An acoustically optimized environment not only increases job satisfaction, it also leads to increased performance and lowers stress hormone levels at the same time. This is where it becomes clear: New Work does not work without a good, acoustically balanced working environment.
