Reception area of medical practice acoustic baffles and acoustic luminaires

Room acoustics
meets practice architecture

The healing effect of acoustics & architecture

Room acoustics play an increasingly important role in everyday practice and clinical practice. The interaction of pleasant room acoustics with modern clinic and practice architecture was the focus of this project. Our goal for the oral surgery practice from Hamburg was to create a harmonious environment for patients and staff.

Mainly for hygienic reasons, hard and smooth surfaces predominate in healthcare rooms. However, these contribute to an increase in sound reflection and thus trigger acoustic discomfort typical of hospitals. The sounds of footsteps, voices, alarms, and the hum and buzz of medical equipment and drills blend together to create a disturbing soundscape that has a strong impact on the well-being of individuals.

When planning the acoustics measures, our crew paid attention to a mix of restrained and simple light and acoustic ceiling sails in combination with an acoustic baffle design object. The acoustic solutions were deliberately chosen in a light shade to reflect the hygienic aspect of the practice. The chosen white color shade conveys the clean aspect of a practice. This is broken up by plays of light and shadow, creating a confidential, health-promoting atmosphere.
